A 1933 Afro-American Weekly article on the early history of Bethlehem Baptist Church stated in part: “The unquenchable ambition of a slave youth who followed his star from the depths of the slave marts to an intrepid dash for his freedom gave birth to Bethlehem Baptist Church. In those days the people of this church had a burning zeal for worship and church service, and they attended church in large numbers.”
The bulletin for the 156th church anniversary summarizes the church history on pages 6-7, https://www.bethlehemofalexandria.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/4th-Sunday-October-27-2019- Church-Anniversary-Bulletin-PERM.pdf
