Chesterbrook United Methodist Church and Cemetery
Title
Chesterbrook United Methodist Church and Cemetery
Date
1866
Description
The church was founded in 1866 by Cyrus Carter, a Haitian immigrant, as the First Baptist Church Lincolnville. The church building was erected on property donated by Carter who had purchased the land from General John S. Crocker. It was renamed First Baptist Church Chesterbrook when the Lincolnville area changed its name to Chesterbrook in 1897. The church later was destroyed by fire and a new structure was built in 1911 on the original site. This is the church that stands today. Carter, along with many of the founding members, is buried in the adjacent cemetery.
