Additional Notes

At the time the school was built, the community of Great Falls was called Forestville; hence, the name Forestville for the school. It was located directly across Walker Road from today’s Great Falls Elementary School. The school closed ca.1905 and was sold in 1913 to Cornelius Johnson who converted the structure into a residential home. Few records concerning the Forestville Colored School remain; however, the names of some of the teachers have survived. They are as follows: Richard T. Jackson (1886-1887), Henrietta Smith Henderson (1887-1889), Marie L. Thornton (1889-1890), Hilory Lucas (1891-1892 and 1901-1903), A. Blanche M. James (1896-1897), Fontaine S. Botts (1900-1901), and Effie S. Harris (1904-1905).
